How much does a FORTIFIED roof cost in Louisiana?

What the Fortify Homes grant covers
If you are selected for a Fortify Homes grant, it reimburses the construction cost up to $10,000, paid to your contractor after the roof earns its IBHS certificate. Say the retrofit comes in around $16,229: the grant covers up to $10,000, leaving roughly $6,229 plus the evaluator and permit fees for you. Selection is a lottery and funding runs out, so treat the grant as help if it comes, not the plan.

What the tax credit covers if you pay yourself
You do not need the grant to get help with the cost. Louisiana's FORTIFIED roof tax credit can return up to $10,000 of what you spend on a qualifying roof you finance yourself, for costs incurred on or after July 1, 2025. Louisiana requires insurers to discount the wind portion of your premium for a FORTIFIED roof, from 16 to 29 percent by zone under the coming benchmarks, and up to about 40 percent at the top carriers today. That saving repeats every year the designation stays in force, so the true cost of the roof is the price you pay now minus what you stop paying every year after.
